Everybody knows AVON. It is a massive brand that practically everyone has heard of. Even if you have never made a purchase from them or seen an AVON brochure it is a name you will recognise. AVON is the worlds number one direct sales beauty company, using the door - to - door method to reach its customers.It has an international network, selling to customers across Europe, America and beyond. There are approximately five million representatives selling AVON and there is always room for more. The size of the company and its recognisable brand name are two strengths that you should recognise as reasons to join. You are not struggling to start a business from scratch. You are joining a successful, established company.

If you are looking for the chance to work from home a quick google search will bring up numerous get rich quick scams and ways to make £1000 a week doing absolutely nothing. You know that these schemes do not work. If you do nothing you will receive nothing, simple as that. But if you want to earn a second income and are prepared to put in some groundwork, then becoming an AVON rep is a real money making opportunity.

 Although I am writing in the UK, and so refer to Avon UK in this hub, the information provided is relevant to Avon sellers in any country, from USA to India, because the Avon business model is practically identical wherever you are.

The AVON opportunity is open to anyone but the majority of its representatives are female. While AVON is predominately a womans market more and more men are joining the business. Without meaning to make generalisations men are mostly attracted to AVONS proven business model and are usually primarily interested in the money making potential.

Women's reasons for joining however, tend to be more varied and complex. One of the major reasons for choosing AVON is its flexibility. You choose the size of your business, the amount of time you can put into it and the times you want to work. It is ideal for mothers who struggle with balancing work and child care. Many reps sort out their deliveries and organise their orders while their children are in bed, and a lot us take our children with us when we make deliveries.

As an AVON rep you are self employed and a lot of women find this an attractive option. If you are in a job where there is little chance of promotion, or you feel that you are not being sufficiently rewarded for your efforts then becoming your own boss, even if it is just part time, is a much more rewarding experience. You are the one who will see the benefits of your hard work. No one else will be taking the credit. Perhaps your circumstances or home life mean that a normal nine to five job will not work for you. Again the chance to be your own boss means that the flexibility of AVON would be right for you.

When you join AVON you can choose if you want to sell to a 'territory' or to 'friends and family'. Choosing  a territory means that you are designated streets near to where you live. You put your AVON brochure through the door, with a message to say when you will be back to collect it. You go back on the specified day, collect your brochure and hopefuly an order, and take their order back to them with a new brochure. 

Selling to friends and family is exactly that. You give a brochure to everyone you know. You hand out brochures at work, at the hairdressers, at the school gates - anywhere you know someone who could be a potential customer. This is my preferred method of selling. I know all my customers, I know they will pay me and they can refer me on to friends of friends who would like to buy AVON from me. I was not comfortable with the door- to -door method, and don't like trying to sell to strangers. However, that method obviously works for many, many other reps, and it does offer the potential of  higher earnings. I wouldnt want to dissuade anyone from selling that way, it just isnt for me.

You do not need to be a high flying business woman or a great sales person to sell AVON. You do need to be organised, reliable and friendly. You will be suprised at how many people are happy to look at an AVON brochure and the products really do sell themselves. You need to know something about the products so it is helpful to look through the magazine that you will receive with every delivery of your order. This highlights new products and keeps you up to date. You also have the opportunity to pre - order products at a reduced price. I would thoroughly recommend this as a way of showing customers first hand an item of jewelery, a shade of lipstick or a new perfume. If a customer knows that you use the products they will have more confidence in making a purchase from you.

You should always call back for a brochure or make a delivery when you say that you will. Customers will lose patience in a rep who leaves them waiting for their order.

Always be friendly. It is easy to smile, comment on the weather and say thankyou, even if they have not placed an order.

Always be as organised as you possibly can be. Selling AVON is certainly not difficult or complicated, but you need to organise your time and brochures.Make sure you have enough brochures, order forms and paper bags. You will be handling money, so always keep AVON money seperate from your own. Make sure you pay your AVON bill on time.

I joined AVON when my child was a few months old. It was a chance to earn some extra money, get me out of the house and made me feel like I was doing something useful for myself. Over the years I have combined AVON with work,parenthood and further education courses. It has somehow managed to fit in with all the ups and downs of life! It is not a get rich quick scheme, but it is an effective, relatively easy and quickly established way to work from home and earn extra cash.

Once you are establshed as an AVON rep you might decide to move on to the next level and become an AVON Sales Leader. This involves recruiting new reps and building a team as you continue to sell AVON yourself. You earn commission from your team and the potential for high earnings is in your hands.
